Initiation of IITaV – 2010

The seed for IITaV was sown on 8 May 2010 when nearly 50 people attended a dinner organised by Rajiv Lal at Tandoori Den, Camberwell. At the dinner the formation of Alumni organisation was discussed. Some pictures from this evening are shown below

April 2011 Dr. Mashelkar Talk

On 10 April 2011 IITaV and the Monash University collaborated to jointly organise a presentation by eminent Indian scientist, Dr Ramesh Mashelkar. IITaV President, Emeritus Professor Arun Kumar introduced the guest speaker and highlighted his eminent standing and appropriateness of his talk titled – “India and Indian Innovation – Making Impossible Possible”. Dr Mashelkar highlighted several examples of the tremendous progress India is making in science, technology and business processes.

August 2011 Dinner with Consul General of India

Melbourne

Indian Institute of Technology Alumni Victoria (IITaV) organised a dinner on 7th August 2011 with Mrs and Dr. S.K. Behera, the Consul General of India as Chief Guest. It was attended by over 70 members, their spouses and children. The first issue of IITaV newsletter was launched at the dinner.

November 2011 Annual Dinner

The IIT Alumni Annual Dinner was held on 12 November 2011. It was an informal evening and to add a bit of spice to the proceedings the theme for the evening was “Bollywood”! With close to 80 attendees (including partners and children) and live entertainment and a DJ it was a fun way to wind down what has been an eventful year for IITaV.

March 2012 – Holi Hungama event

IITaV’s “Holi Hungama” program at Cinnamon Club in Cheltenham on Sunday 11th March had something for everyone – adults and children alike. Dr Behera, Consul General for India in Victoria was Chief Guest. President of IITaV, Professor Arun Kumar welcomed everyone and mentioned some of the achievements of the young organization during the past year. The entertainment included beautiful songs by IITian Radhey Shyam Gupta and his daughter Kokil. In typical Holi Hasya Kavita tradition, the attendees were entertained by poems written and recited by IITian Subash Sharma who appeared all the way from Brisbane through a live video link. Chief Guest, Dr Behera’s poems in English and Hindi were received with much applause. IITian Dr Nalin Sharda, the excellent Master of Ceremonies, also recited his poem to everyone’s delight.

IITaV’s networking events have been growing from strength to strength. These events provide an opportunity for alumni to meet each other in an informal environment, build their network and pursue their professional goals.

About fifteen members attended the event held on Thursday, 12 April 2012, at Riversdale Hotel, Hawthorn. The President of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs), Rod Smith, also joined us for the evening.
